While propane-air peak shaving and standby systems are most common, systems are also designed to utilize LPG feedstocks with high butane content. By mixing LPG with air, a fuel gas is created matching burning characteristics of available natural gas; thus an LPG-air mix can substitute for some or all flowing gas energy supply. Undiluted LPG is of course also widely used around the world and LPG-air systems are sometimes deployed as base-load systems prior to connection of natural gas in a developing area.
